Soundflavor DJ 1.1 is here!

We're very excited to announce the arrival of Soundflavor DJ 1.1.

With version 1.1, you can now post your favorite playlists to your MySpace page, blog, or website using our new playlist widget. Let the world see (and hear) your best work!

Here's an example:

From the Action Menu, click “Post Playlist” and select the playlist you would like to embed in a widget. You can select a horizontal or vertical design, pick your color scheme, and change the number of album covers displayed.

From your widget, other people will hear clips from your playlist and can download your playlist directly into Soundflavor DJ.

We have added a number of frequently requested features. For example, the new build allows you to hear clips for songs that you do not own as they pass through the PlayStream. We have also upgraded the quality of our clips -- they're crystal clear now.

Beyond that, we've created a much simpler (and faster) installer, made several improvements to our recommendation algorithm, and fixed dozens of issues reported by our users.

We hope you enjoy the new version. Please let us know what you think! sfdj@soundflavor.com

Fixes and things

We just released version 1.05 for your downloading pleasure.

The latest version includes background scanning of iTunes AAC files (yay!), support for various DPI modes (those users who use "large fonts" on Windows will be happy now), various tweaks to our song recommendations, and a couple of dozen fixes for speed and stability. Grab it now while it's hot!

For those of you with Macs, please rest assured that we are working on a version for the Mac (honest -- we're not just saying that). We'll be announcing a way for you to monitor our progress on the Mac version shortly.

Launch Party

On October 3rd, we celebrated the launch of Soundflavor DJ at Slide -- a new speakeasy in San Francisco. We were joined by 350 friends, family members, investors, industry analysts, reporters, and other Bay Area hipsters for a night of great food, drinks, and music courtesy of The Hot Toddies and various guest DJs. Soundflavor DJ 1.0, iTunes Edition ships!

The Soundflavor team has always been focused on providing the best music recommendation products available anywhere. Until now, though, we have mainly created products for commercial licensees in the music industry.

Today, after countless long days and late nights, we are proud to bring you our first product designed for everyone: Soundflavor DJ, your personal DJ for iTunes! It is currently available for Windows, although a Mac version is coming (along with support for other players beyond iTunes).

We created Soundflavor DJ in partnership with Adaptive Path, the geniuses who have also worked with other well-known companies such as Blogger, Flickr, and BitTorrent. It is the first in a series of products we have designed with them, each with the goal of making it easier for you to enjoy more of the music that you love.

Many months ago, we showed them the Soundflavor Recommendation Engine, our advanced song-level music search and recommendation technology, and asked them to help us find a way to take the pain out of digital music. We wanted to help music fans-like you-spend less time hunting through their music libraries, trying to find the "right" song to play; create great playlists without the work; and shop for music according to their tastes.

Together, we came up with a simple design for Soundflavor DJ. It looks a lot like a physical device-such as an iPod-so it's easy to figure out how to use it. It works as a companion to iTunes, so you don't need to reimport your music into yet another piece of software. We cooked up a number of new ideas-such as the PlayStream, "Cherry Picks," and the Flavorizer, all of which make it easy and fun to spend more time rediscovering your music collection, and suggesting songs and concerts that you might want to check out based on your tastes. Check the download page for a complete walkthrough of Soundflavor DJ.

While we are pleased with the first version, we want Soundflavor DJ to be a product that you will use every day. We would love your help. Run into a bug, or think of a cool feature idea that you would like to see in a future version? Please let us know - we listen! You can reach us at sfdj@soundflavor.com.
